Canisters A canister vacuum is a wise choice when hard floors such as wood, tile, or vinyl are dominant. Canisters can handle smaller tasks such as upholstery, dusting, and automobiles easier because of the long hose and easy mobility. A canister however needs agitation to deep clean carpets. A power-nozzle is a must for combination or dominant carpet cleaning.
Uprights Uprights are the most popular type of vacuum sold in the United States. With the combination of agitation and air flow they are champs at deep cleaning carpeted surfaces. Most do not handle bare floors well because their agitators just throw dirt around. Also attachment use can be limited.
